Can Microwave Food Packaging Be Directly Heated? Is Silicone Heating Toxic? Professor: Be Careful With This Kind Of Heating

Modern people are busy with work and life, so it is convenient and delicious to use microwave food to solve a meal. However, many people have questions, can microwave food packaging containers be directly microwaved? How to properly microwave food? Which plastic containers are safe to heat? The following experts share the tips of microwave food heating.

Zhou Zhihui, a professor at the Department of Food and Applied Biotechnology of National Chung Hsing University, explained in the Food and Drug Administration's "Drug and Food Safety Weekly Report" that microwave fresh food in general convenience stores usually use heat-resistant containers. Don't worry too much; as for other microwave food and plastic containers, you should pay attention to the labeling information before heating. You can refer to the heat-resistant temperature, microwave symbol and material label on the bottom of the container or on the outer packaging to confirm whether it can be microwaved, and according to the material properties are correct Use, avoid overheating and exceed the heat-resistant temperature of the plastic material.

Generally speaking, other plastics such as No. 1 PET, No. 3 PVC, No. 4 LDPE and other plastics usually have a lower heat resistance temperature. The silicone container with the same name as "glue" has a much higher heat resistance temperature than plastic. Generally speaking, it is safe as a microwave container.

Zhou Zhihui explained that the heating principle of microwave ovens is to use microwaves to make water molecules vibrate to generate heat. The maximum temperature of water is 100°C. Therefore, the heat-resistant temperature of microwave plastic containers is recommended to be above 100°C. The Food and Drug Administration also reminded that if the container is deformed after heating, it means that the plastic structure has changed abnormally, and it should be avoided.

“People often misunderstand that microwave ovens are dangerous, In fact, the microwave oven is closed, and it is very safe to isolate the microwave inside from running out. "Zhou Zhihui explained that the microwave container can be glass, ceramic or heat-resistant plastic, but metal containers cannot be used, otherwise sparks will be generated when microwaved; secondly, it is recommended to cover the microwave, because food is easy to spray when microwaved. Splash on the furnace wall and accumulate dirt and cause hygienic problems. The cover used for stamping must also be of microwaveable material.

In addition, it is also necessary to avoid heating the water for too long in the microwave, and do not fill it too much. After the water is microwaved, it may seem calm in the cup and bowl, but it may suddenly boil when it is taken out. This phenomenon is called "sudden boiling". It is easy to burn people. It is recommended to stir a little before heating, or put a wooden stirring rod in the cup. There is also a small trick. In order to prevent the water vapor generated by heating from causing the container to burst, it is recommended to reserve pores or small holes on the container packaging material for the water vapor to escape.
